The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

Under Leadership Lecture Series8, Prof. Samir Barua, Former Director and Professor, IIM-A addressed the students and faculty members of NISM on Thursday March 03, 2022. The topic of the session was “Dealing with the Basic Statistic in Finance”.
Prof. Samir Barua, during his address, discussed Statistic as a measure that is derived from data. He touched upon the topic of how to measure the return over a period of time and the multiplicative representation of computation. Prof. Barua deliberated on computation of variance/volitality of the annual return period.

Real life examples from Nifty and Sensex stocks in measuring returns over the period of number of years, were also discussed. Prof. Samir Barua also answered a large number of questions raised by the audience and kept session lively with constant interactions. The brief, but highly informative session was attended by students and faculty in hybrid mode.
