What is World Investor Week?

World Investor Week (WIW) is a week-long global initiative promoted by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to raise awareness about the importance of investor education and investor protection. Every year, this worldwide event brings together securities regulators, stock exchanges, investor associations, and financial institutions across six continents.

During this week, IOSCO members and supporters lead a wide range of investor-focused communications, services, contests, and workshops to highlight various initiatives in these two critical areas. WIW offers a unique opportunity for IOSCO members to collaborate with investor education and protection stakeholders at both the local and international levels, empowering individuals with the knowledge, confidence, and tools needed to make informed, responsible, and secure investment decisions.

Organized under the aegis of IOSCO, WIW sees participation from over 100 countries around the world. WIW is supported by 118 member jurisdictions and 14 organizations committed to prioritizing investor education and protection.

Through workshops, webinars, investor awareness campaigns, and targeted outreach programs, WIW creates a unified global platform dedicated to financial empowerment. This collaborative effort ensures that investors, regardless of geography, have access to credible guidance and trustworthy information.

Objective

World Investor Week aims to:

Encourage responsible investing and fraud awareness. The initiative reminds investors to remain vigilant, verify information, and adopt safe investing practices to safeguard their financial well-being.

Promote financial literacy and investor protection among retail investors.
By helping individuals understand investment basics, risks, and rights, WIW works towards creating more confident and better-informed investors.
Highlight the key role of regulators and financial institutions in building a fair and transparent market ecosystem.
WIW emphasizes how regulatory bodies and market institutions work constantly to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in the securities market.

India’s Participation

In India, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) leads WIW celebrations, working closely with market infrastructure institutions, stock exchanges, and education partners like the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM).

Across the country, a variety of investor-focused initiatives are organized to strengthen awareness and participation.
