Prof. Abhay Pethe is a Chairman of Academic Council of NISM. He is a Former Senior Resident Fellow at Mumbai School of Economics and Public Policy (MSE-PP), University of Mumbai. He was formerly the Director and Chair Professor at MSE-PP. He is M. Sc. in Pure Mathematics, MA in Economics and Ph.D. (Arts) in Economics from University of Mumbai.
He has taught the core papers of Microeconomic Theory and Development Economics. His areas of elective teaching includes Mathematics for Economists, Urban Economics, Infrastructure and Governance in Metropolitan Regions, Mathematical Economics, Econometrics, Financial Economics and Monetary Economics.
He is a Member of the Board of Management of GIPE, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics and also formerly a Member of the Governing Board of TISS, Tata Institute of Social Sciences as also a member of Authorities of several academic institutes.
He served as an Advisor –Consultant to Village Social Transformation Foundation (VSTF) for Impact Assessment of CMRDFs in Maharashtra and as Consultant with UNICEF Maharashtra. He is also a Member TACs for MPI with Urban Maharashtra (UNICEF/ Planning Dept. GoM/ IIPS) and Housing Start-up Index (RBI). He has been a consultant to many private governmental and Multi-lateral agencies such as CRISIL, MoHUPA (GoI), Planning Commission, World Bank, UNDP-UNCHS, World Bank Institute. He has served on several High level Expert Committees of Government at Central State and Local levels. Prof. Pethe has authored two books in the area of Economics and also published several research papers and articles in reputed journals.

Shri Bhatia is a Whole Time Member, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) since June 01, 2022. In SEBI, Shri Bhatia handles the Department of Debt and Hybrid Securities (DDHS), Corporation, Finance Investigation Department (CFID), Corporation finance Department (CFD), General Services Department (GSD), Regional Offices/Local offices (ROs/LOs), PQ Cell, RTI Cell, Board Cell and NISM division.

Prior to his joining SEBI, Shri Bhatia held the position of Managing Director, State Bank of India wherein he had spent over three and a half decades.  Before becoming Managing Director in State Bank of India, Shri Bhatia served as MD & CEO, SBI Funds Management Pvt. Limited.  He has wide experience in Treasury Operations, Retail Banking, Credit, Investment Banking and Asset Management.

Shri Bhatia completed his schooling from Air Force School, Subroto Park, Delhi and did his Graduation in Physics and Mathematics from Dayalbagh University, Agra.  He is an MBA from Podar Institute of Management, Jaipur.

Prof. Ashok Banerjee joined the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) as Professor (Finance and Control) in August 2004. Prior to joining IIM-C, he was a professor at IIM-Lucknow. He was the Dean (New Initiatives and external Relations) of IIM Calcutta during 2012-2015.

He is a Postgraduate in Commerce from University of Calcutta, a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a PhD.

Prof. Banerjee, during his tenure as Dean, was instrumental in setting up an Incubator at IIM Calcutta called IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, which is duly recognized by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) as a Technology Business Incubator.

Prof. Banerjee teaches Corporate Finance in the first year, and Corporate Restructuring, Trading Strategies and Business Valuation in second year of the MBA Programme at IIM Calcutta. He also teaches Empirical Finance and Corporate Finance in the PhD programme.

Prof. Banerjee was the founder-coordinator of the Financial Research and Trading Laboratory of IIM Calcutta. He was instrumental in starting the International Finance Conference in 2009 at IIM Calcutta. The conference is now rechristened as India Finance Conference and is organized jointly by IIM Calcutta, IIM Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad.

His current areas of research include high frequency finance and sentiment analysis. Prof. Banerjee studies the behaviour of algorithmic traders in intraday market. He is particularly interested in the role of proprietary algorithmic traders in supporting market quality. In sentiment analysis domain, he uses text from corporate filings and electronic media to estimate default probability of corporate borrowers. He is presently working on directional prediction of inflation using news.

Prof. Banerjee serves as an independent director on the Boards of companies in the financial and technology sectors.

Shri Ananth Narayan G took charge as Whole Time Member, Securities and Exchange Board of India on October 10, 2022. Shri Narayan handles Market Intermediaries Regulation and Supervision Department(MIRSD), Alternative Investment Fund and Foreign Portfolio Investors Department(AFD), Integrated Surveillance Department(ISD), Department of Economic & Policy Analysis(DEPA) and Information Technology Department(ITD).

Shri Narayan has more than two and half decades of experience in banking and financial markets and has held various senior positions. Prior to this assignment, Shri Narayan also held the position of Associate Professor, S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai.

Shri Narayan has also served as a Director on the Boards of various banks and corporates. He has also been a member of various advisory committees constituted by SEBI and RBI.

Shri Narayan holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow and was awarded the Director’s Gold Medal for standing 2nd in the batch. He did his Graduation in Bachelor of Technology (Electrical Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

Mr. Garg has handled several important assignments in SEBI since joining in January 1994. He has been closely associated with SEBI and Government of India’s initiatives on Financial Literacy and Investor Education in the country. He was instrumental in launching of SEBI Complaints Redress System (SCORES), Securities Market Trainers (SMARTs) program for Investor Education, Toll Free Helpline and Financial Education through Resource Persons.

Mr. Garg has headed departments like Treasury and Accounts, General Services, Office of Investor Assistance and Education and office of Central Public Information Officer.  Mr. Garg was Registrar, National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) from July 2012 to September 2018.  He played crucial role in establishment of NISM and setting up its new campus at Patalganga.  Mr. Garg’s current portfolio includes Office of Investor Assistance and Education, Information Technology Department, General Services Department.

Mr. Garg is SEBI nominee on the Board of Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) set up by MCA, GOI and Technical Group on Financial Inclusion and Financial Literacy under FSDC.

Mr. Garg is Chair of the Board of National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE), a joint initiative of Financial Sector Regulators comprising of RBI, SEBI, IRDAI and PFRDA.

Mr. Garg holds degree in Engineering, Law and Management.

Dr Sanjay Bahl has around four decades of experience in the ICT industry

His background includes broad and deep skills and knowledge encompassing unique experiences in technology, business, global trade, and policy in the private and public sectors along with academic, public policy and legal areas.

He was the Global Chief Security Officer (CSO) for Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the CSO for Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd. He was the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Hughes Tele.com (India) Ltd on secondment from TCS.

While at PT Infotimur Sistimatama, Jakarta, and CMC Ltd, New Delhi, he developed, executed and managed large complex software and turnkey projects.

As resource person for UN-APCICT, Dr. Bahl has delivered the security and privacy training module of the Academy of ICT Essentials for government leaders.

Dr. Sanjay Bahl is currently the Director General, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India.

Mr. Madan Sabnavis is Chief Economist at Bank of Baroda. He is a post graduate in Economics from Delhi School of Economics and graduated from St Stephen’s College in Economics (Honours). He has been a corporate Economist since 1987 and has worked in the fields of development banking, commercial banking, engineering, and commodity markets and credit ratings. He has multiple interests in human behavior, politics and social systems besides Economics.  In personal capacity, has got 2500+ articles published across financial publications since 1988 and is a published author of 4 books- Macro Economics Demystified, Eco-Quirks, Economics of India- how to fool all people for all times, Hits and Misses- Indian Banking Story.
Mr. Sabnavis is a member of SEBI’s CDAC and RAC committee, IIBEF’s RAC committee and Education committee. Have been Chairman and Co-Chairman of committees of BCCI and IMC.

Ms. Padmaja Chunduru, is the MD & CEO NSDL since September 2021, after a 37 year stint in banking industry, in SBI and Indian Bank.

At Indian Bank, Ms. Padmaja has successfully steered the merger of Allahabad Bank into Indian Bank amid the Covid challenges. Significant improvement in all key metrics, and the empathetic handling of the cultural integration of two diverse banks was the subject of a case study “Merger of Equals” by Harvard Business School Publishing.

A Post Graduate in Commerce from Andhra University, Ms. Padmaja joined SBI in 1984 as a Probationary Officer. In a career spanning more than 3 decades, with postings in India and USA, she gained rich experience in Corporate, Retail and International Banking. She was Country Head (US Operations) SBI at New York from 2014 to 2017.

Ms. Padmaja has extensive Board experience. She chaired the Indian Bank board.
She was on the Board of LIC for three years.

Ms. Padmaja is passionate about women empowerment and believes that social, cultural and economic changes are necessary to achieve this. She has implemented many measures in all her roles to achieve this both for employees and customers of the bank.

Mr. Sunil Kadam is the Registrar of National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), a capacity building initiative of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Mr. Kadam holds a degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Pune. Mr. Kadam is a Chief General Manager at SEBI. Prior to taking over as Registrar of NISM, Mr. Kadam was Regional Director of Northern Regional Office of SEBI. Mr. Kadam has joined SEBI in 1996 and during his tenure in SEBI he has worked in various departments in SEBI and handled the work relating to administration of MIIs, Inspection, Market Surveillance, Investigations, Corporate Governance, Issue management and policies related to these areas. He was also part of various committees in SEBI.
