About the Program

Data has emerged as a new functional requirement in modern-age decision making. Every organization use data as a key input to arrive at any decision-making pertaining to their products and services. CPDS (Basic) offered by the National Institute of Securities Markets, will enable you to collect and manage data responsibly and ultimately use it to make informed decisions. The program is an interdisciplinary field of study that incorporates basic understanding of finance and securities markets. During your study, you may work in teams or independently to analyse financial/ securities markets data using the learnings of the data science tools and techniques.

For Whom?

This program is designed for students who want to begin or advance their careers in data science in the securities markets domain. It is also ideal for the securities markets professionals who want to learn using data optimally to make their decisions more efficient, consumer-centric and cost effective.

The Basic level program is designed for those with a limited technical background (some coding experience and familiarity with basic statistics) or those with no prior experience.

Two Day Campus Immersion Program at Patalganga Campus where students will:

  • (I) Work on Hands-On Projects.
  • (ii) Explore NISM’s Technical Infrastructure including Bloomberg Lab, Data Science Lab, Simulation Lab and other
    facilities.

Programme Assessment

The performance of participants is assessed on continuous evaluation. Evaluation is through quizzes, submissions, projects, etc., as may be indicated by the faculty members. At the end of the Basic Level of the programme, participants will be awarded with Grades and certificate of completion.

Selection Procedure

Stage I : Online Registration for CPDS-Basic Admission 2026-27 (Batch IV), NISM

  • (I) NISM invites online applications for admission to the CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV).
  • (II) Registration will start on December 20, 2025 (1730 Hrs.) and the last date of online registration will be on July 17, 2026 (2359 Hrs).
  • (III) Candidates need to create their Login ID (USERNAME & PASSWORD) for online registration at https://apply.nism.ac.in/cpds. Upon successful registration, a User-ID and Password will be sent to registered email ID and mobile number of the candidate.
  • (IV) Candidates need to submit an application/admission data form along with a non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred Only).
  • (V) Applications in any other mode will not be accepted

Stage II : Eligibility cum Shortlisting Criteria

Interested applicants who fulfil the below-mentioned eligibility criteria are required to register for the CPDS- Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV) via the registration link https://apply.nism.ac.in/cpds Applicants for admission to the programme will be shortlisted on the basis of their scores in ANY of the following entrance examinations:

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidate must satisfy the following criteria to apply for the programme:

  • 12th standard with minimum 50% marks (Maths as a subject) from any recognized board.
  • OR
  • Graduation with 50% marks for recognised University/ Institute.

Note:

Candidates who are likely to complete 12th or Graduation before the 29th of August, 2026 may also apply, subject to meeting the minimum eligibility criteria. If selected, such candidates will be offered admission to the programme provisionally. At the time of registration for the programme, such candidates must produce X and XII and Graduation mark sheets (securing minimum marks i.e. 50% along with school leaving certificate failing which the candidate’s admission offer may stand cancelled.

The candidates are required to qualify NISM Aptitude Test (NISM AT 2026) exam conducted by NISM.

Stage III : NISM Aptitude Test (NISM AT 2026)

  • (I) Shortlisted candidates from Stage-II will appear in Stage-III i.e. NISM Aptitude Test (NISM AT 2026).
  • (ii) All shortlisted candidates will be informed by Email or download their call letters to appear in the NISM Aptitude Test. All the required details like date, time and other guidelines will be mentioned in the call letter.
  • (iii) Eligible candidates will receive an Email for the NISM Aptitude Test for CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV).

Stage IV : Final Selection List Based on Entrance Score

  • (i) The offer of admission to the candidate will be made strictly on the basis of merit/ rank list and availability of seats.
  • (ii) The Merit List will be generated based on the valid score of NISM Aptitude Test 2026.
  • (iii) During the Campus Immersion Program Accommodation will be done by NISM.

Stage V : Provisional Admission to CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV)

Only selected candidates will receive a provisional offer letter for admission from apu@nism.ac.in on their registered email ID shortly after the declaration of the merit list. A candidate receiving an admission offer from NISM and accepting the offer within the stipulated date needs to deposit Rs. 66,250/- as the OAA i.e. Offer Acceptance Amount (or as mentioned in the Offer Letter).

  • (I) An automated receipt and a text message of the transaction will be shared by the associated bank on the registered email id/ mobile no. of the candidate.
  • (ii) On acceptance of the admission offer and payment of OAA, the candidate will receive his/her confirmation letter for provisional admission to CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV) on his/her registered email ID. If a candidate fails to pay the 1st instalment of First Year Programme Fees by the stipulated date mentioned in the admission confirmation letter, the seat will be cancelled.

  • (I) The program includes the Two Day Campus Immersion. Accommodation and Dining during the Immersion will be taken care by NISM.
  • (II) All expenses incurred towards traveling will be borne by the individual Participant. Attending Two Days Campus Immersion at NISM Patalganga Campus is mandatory for all Participant.

Stage VI : Reporting for joining the CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV)

  • (I) The academic session will tentatively begin from August 29, 2026.
  • (II) The hostel room allocation to the candidate will be done on a sharing basis. Hostel rooms for the DAP category candidates will be arranged on the ground floor or first floor (preferably) at the time of training at Patalganga.
Note
  • (i) Comfortable hostel accommodation, separate for boys and girls, is available in the campus.
  • (ii) Accommodation and Dining Fee once paid by a student will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • (iii) The hostels are well equipped with all the modern amenities and are under the charge of caring and experienced Wardens.
  • (iv) NISM Dining Hall and Cafeteria: A spacious well lit and well ventilated cafeteria in the campus serves sumptuous and healthy food to the students. The variety of dishes which are both healthy and tasty and are crafted by a team of professional dieticians to ensure a well-balanced diet.
  • (v) NISM Recreational Facilities: NISM has a world class sports complex and extensive sports facilities. NISM offers ample opportunities to students for a regular work-out and lifestyle management by providing a host of excellent sports facilities. It has facilities for games like cricket, basketball and volleyball as well as indoor games like chess, carom, table-tennis, badminton, etc. A Gymnasium and a swimming pool is also available for students to enhance their fitness levels.
  • (vi) Medical Facilities: NISM provides Student Safety Insurance and a Visiting Doctor within the Campus. Ambulance facility (on call) is available in case of any emergency.
  • (vii) Laundry facilities are available on payment basis at our campus.

Refund Policy CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV)

(I) Entire Fee including the application fee is Non-Refundable.

  • (II) The information in this document is applicable only for the admissions cycle CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV). NISM reserves the right to change, modify or adopt any new admission process that it deems necessary at any point.
  • (III) Any dispute concerning Admission for the CPDS-Basic 2026–27 (Batch IV) would be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts within the territorial jurisdiction of the city of Mumbai only.
  • (IV) You will receive all admission offers in the form of a letter duly signed by the Academic Program Unit of NISM sent from apu@nism.ac.in. Any offer received from any other email is completely invalid and is not official. All admissions to NISM are provisional till you have completed all formality upon reporting to the institute.
  • (V) If at any point of time it is found that the information provided by the candidate is false, incorrect, or misrepresented, the admission offer will stand cancelled.
  • (VI) NISM reserves the right to change, modify or adopt any new admissions process that it deems necessary at any point.

A3. Yes, you can enrol for any one or both level of the program subject to the eligibility of admission.

Q8. I do not have prior understanding on financial markets. Will this Programme suit me?

A8. The curriculum has been appropriately structured to provide a basic understanding of financial markets, institutions and products. This will create a level playing field amongst participants from diverse backgrounds. The programme will feature subjects on Financial Economics, Financial Products and Institutions, Financial Derivatives, etc. to give a fundamental understanding in these areas, over and above data science related subjects.

Q9. Is there any upper age limit for this Programme?

A9.  No, there is no upper age limit to pursue this program.

Q10. What is the selection criteria?

A10. The selection of candidates will be based on a screening test. Upon successful completion of the basic level, students will be eligible to directly enroll in the advanced level. Students who opt to directly enroll in the advanced level (without completing the basic level) will need to undergo a separate screeningtest.

The screening test will cover the following syllabus:

  • Number System
  • Profit and Loss
  • Simple Interest
  • Compound Interest
  • Elementary Statistics & Data Interpretation

The screening test will be conducted online and will last for 60 minutes, with 30 questions. There will be no negative marking.

Q12. How can I apply for the Programme?

A12.  Candidates willing to apply should first register themselves on https://apply.nism.ac.in/cpds

  • Step 1: New Registration: Upon successful registration, a User-ID and Password will be sent to registered email ID and mobile number of the candidate.
  • Step 2: Application process: Thereafter, candidates are required to log-in and complete the application process by paying application fee. After making the payment of application fee of Rs. 500/- the candidate may submit their application.
