The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

NISM proudly inaugurated the Data Science Lab at the NISM Patalganga Campus on February 13, 2025. This lab is dedicated to interdisciplinary fields using scientific methods, algorithms, and systems. The establishment of the Data Science Lab aims to transform the modern-day education process by incorporating innovative approaches such as Data Visualization, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. This will significantly aid in the skill development of students. The lab aims to foster an environment of innovation and research, encouraging students to explore the potential of data science in the financial market.

The lab promotes an interactive learning environment, empowering students with industry- relevant skills. It is equipped with advanced tools and software, including Python, Anaconda, R Programming, R Studio, Power BI, Tableau, and Microsoft Office, etc.

The event commenced with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a digital inauguration led by the chief guest, Dr. Arvind Virmani, Member of NITI Aayog. Other distinguished guests included Mr. Ashwin Bhatia, Whole-Time Member of SEBI, Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of rediff.com, Shri Uday Chitale, Independent Director of ICICI Bank Ltd., Shri Shashikumar Valsakumar Executive Director of SEBI, Shri Sashi Krishnan, Director of NISM, Shri Sunil Kadam, Registrar of NISM, and Prof. Dr. Kirti Arekar, Programme Director of Data Science. They all graced the occasion, emphasizing the growing importance of data science in financial decision-making.
