The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

Dr. Surya Nath Maiti is an Assistant Professor of Economics with research expertise in applied microeconomics, particularly in the areas of development, health, and labor economics. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.

His research focuses on issues related to household behavior, gender, health outcomes, social inequality, and awareness-driven interventions in developing countries, with a special emphasis on India. His work has been published in leading international journals such as Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, European Journal of Development Research, Journal of Demographic Economics, Social Indicators Research, and International Social Science Journal.

Dr. Maiti has previously served as an Assistant Professor at Galgotias University, Shiv Nadar University, Birla Institute of Technology, and as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at IIT Gandhinagar. He has presented his research at several national and international conferences and has received multiple academic honors, including the Prof. M.J. Manohar Rao Award (Indian Econometric Society) for Young Economist of the Year (2024).

At NISM, his teaching and research interests align with microeconomics, applied economic analysis, public policy, and evidence-based decision-making.

  • Awarded the Wagel Medal for securing First Position in M.A. Economics Examination, 2014.
  • Awarded Junior Research Fellowship by the University Grants Commission in the examination held in December 2015.
  • Received a fee waiver from J-PAL South Asia for participating in J-PAL/CLEAR South Asia Executive Education Course 2014 on Impact Evaluation.
