1st Annual Capital Markets Conference, 2019

The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) has conducted 1st Annual Capital Markets Conference, 2019 sponsored by State Bank of India and Co-sponsored by The Japanese Association of Financial Econometrics and Engineering (JAFEE) at NISM Campus, Patalganga during November 21-22, 2019. About 100 participants including students, PhD Scholars, faculty members, eminent economists, regulators, market participants, Government officials, industrialists across the country have attended the conference.

The first day (November 21, 2019) of the conference was inaugurated by Shri. G. Mahalingam (Guest of Honour), WTM, SEBI. Dr. Shri S. K. Mohanty, Director, NISM delivered welcome address, Shri Hare Krishna Jena, DMD, SBI (Chief Guest) delivered keynote address. The conference overview was provided by Dr. Latha chari, Professor, NISM and conference co-ordinator. The inaugural event concluded with Vote of thanks delivered by Shri Sunil Jayawant Kadam, Registrar, NISM. Both the Chief guest and guest of honour spoke about the importance of research related to financial markets and said that going forward NISM will be the hub of research in financial markets domain. They welcomed the academicians from other universities to collaborate and come out with research that is relevant to the industry.

Two days of conference featured a rich line-up of technical sessions on various segments.

Out of a large number of submissions, the conference has accepted 33 research papers for the presentation in these two days’ conference. The authors of the accepted papers have presented their papers in 4 Technical Sessions including parallel sessions conducted across the two days. The broad areas for the technical sessions included are Risk Management, market microstructure, fixed income market, commodity market, equity and equity derivatives markets, Artificial Intelligence etc.

Panel Discussion were conducted on topics “SEBI regulation requiring Large Corporates to raise 25% of their incremental debt requirements from markets” and “SME Fundraising and Other Challenges” with eminent panelists like Ms. Asha Shetty, Dr. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, Mr. Sandesh Kirkire, Mr. Mahavir Lunavat, Ms. Rachna Bhusari and Mr. Himanshu Aggarwal sharing their views on the above topics.

The moderators for the panel discussions were Dr. V. R. Narasimhan and Dr. Nitin Tike.

The programme ended with Session on “Careers and Career Opportunities in Securities Markets” by Mr. Abhya Chopra of NISM.

The Valedictory session chaired, Prof. G. Sethu. Other dignitaries of the valedictory session were Prof. Malabika Deo- Professor of Finance; Pondicherry University, Shri S. K Mohanty- Director, Shri Sunil Kadam- Registrar, Dr. V R Narshiman-Dean SRSS and SCG, Dr. Latha Chari- Professor in charge of SSIR and conference coordinator.

Last but not the least, three Best Paper Awards were distributed to Mr. Mohit Kumar of IIT Madras (1st Position), Geetu Aggarwal of Punjab Agricultural University (2nd Position) and Sravani Bharandev of IIT Bombay (3rd position). Paper Presentation Certificate as well as certificate of participation was issued to all the participants at the end of the Programme. The Programme was well received and highly appreciated by the participants. The programme was ended over with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pradiptarathi Panda, Lecturer NISM and Conference Co-coordinator.
