As part of NISM’s ongoing commitment to empower students of partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), a series of 12 Online Student Development Programmes (SDPs) were conducted in July 2025.
SDP 6: Securities Markets Foundation
Date: 24th June 2025 | Speaker: Dr. Jatin Trivedi, Associate Professor – NISM
Dr. Jatin Trivedi introduced participants to the structure and functioning of the securities markets, providing a strong conceptual base for understanding financial products and market operations. The session covered the types of securities—equity, debt, and hybrids—their features, and relevance in investment strategies.
Participants gained clarity on the differences between the primary and secondary markets, along with insights into the full life cycle of a security—from issuance and listing to trading and settlement. The session also highlighted key market performance indicators and the role of regulatory and infrastructure institutions. Real-world examples made the content engaging and practical, offering a solid foundation for further learning in market-related topics.
SDP 7: Mutual Funds in India: Concepts, Structures, and Regulatory Framework
Date: 25th June 2025 | Speaker: Mr. Amit Trivedi, Adjunct Faculty – NISM
This session provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of mutual funds, their structure, and significance in the Indian financial ecosystem. Mr. Amit Trivedi explained the concept and role of mutual funds in mobilizing retail investments and promoting financial inclusion.
Participants were introduced to the regulatory framework governing mutual funds, with a focus on SEBI’s role in ensuring transparency and investor protection. Key operational concepts such as Net Asset Value (NAV), Total Expense Ratio (TER), and pricing of units were clearly explained, helping students understand how mutual fund units are valued and managed.
The session also covered methods to evaluate mutual fund scheme performance, including return measures, risk-adjusted returns, and selection criteria. Real-life illustrations and simplified financial terminology made the session interactive and easy to grasp, especially for students new to market-based investments.
Overall, the session empowered participants with the foundational knowledge required to make informed mutual fund investment decisions.
SDP 8: ESG Essentials: Driving Environmental, Social, and Governance Change

The session, “ESG Essentials: Driving Environmental, Social, and Governance Change” by Dr. Meraj Inamdar, offered a comprehensive overview of ESG principles, covering key environmental, social, and governance aspects such as sustainability, ethical business practices, and social responsibility. It also focused on ESG reporting, emphasizing the importance of metrics, standards, and global frameworks used to assess and disclose ESG performance. The session concluded with insights into the future of ESG and its growing relevance in business, highlighting how ESG practices are increasingly being integrated into corporate strategies to promote responsible and sustainable operations.

Mr. Vijay Kanchan conducted an insightful session on “Derivatives Essentials”, covering the fundamentals of derivatives, including an introduction to forwards, futures, and options.
