
As part of the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM)’s ongoing commitment to promoting financial literacy and financial inclusion, a structured Online Student Development Programme (SDP) Series has been launched for students of its partner Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
SDP 1: Personal Finance Concepts I
Date:4 July 2026 | Speaker: Mr. Amit Trivedi, Adjunct Faculty – NISM
The first SDP introduced students to the fundamentals of Personal Finance, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to make informed financial decisions. The programme covered the importance of personal finance and the financial life cycle, helping participants understand financial planning at different stages of life. Students also learned about budgeting and cash flow management to effectively manage income and expenses, along with the distinction between saving and investing for achieving short- and long-term financial goals. Additionally, the session emphasized the significance of emergency fund planning as a foundation for financial security and resilience against unforeseen circumstances.
SDP 2: Personal Finance Concepts II
Date:4 July 2026 | Speaker: Mr. Dhiren Gokani, Sr.AGM – NISM
This SDP introduced students to the Time Value of Money (TVM) and the Power of Compounding, enabling them to understand how money grows over time and the importance of starting investments early. The programme explained the impact of compounding on long-term wealth creation and demonstrated the practical application of TVM in financial decision-making. Students also gained hands-on exposure to personal finance tracking tools, including mobile applications and Microsoft Excel-based exercises, to help them monitor income, expenses, savings, investments, and financial goals effectively. These practical exercises equipped participants with essential skills to manage their personal finances in a structured and disciplined manner.
SDP 3: Asset Classes & Goal-Based Investment Planning I
Date: 18July 2026 | Speaker: Mr. Amit Trivedi, Adjunct Faculty – NISM
This SDP focused on providing students with an overview of the major asset classes, including equity, debt, gold, and real estate, enabling them to understand the characteristics, benefits, and risks associated with each investment avenue. The programme also covered the risk-return trade-off and investor risk profiling, helping participants assess their risk appetite and align investment choices with their financial objectives. Additionally, students learned how to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) financial goals, equipping them with a structured approach to effective financial planning and long-term wealth creation.
SDP 4: Asset Classes & Goal-Based Investment Planning II
Date: 25 July 2026 | Speaker: Mr. Sanjeeva Mathur, Visiting Faculty- NISM
This SDP focused on goal-based investment planning and asset allocation, enabling students to understand how investments can be aligned with specific financial goals and individual risk profiles. The programme also explored the impact of inflation on wealth creation and highlighted the importance of periodic portfolio rebalancing to maintain an optimal asset mix over time. To reinforce these concepts, participants engaged in a hands-on activity where they developed a simple goal-based financial plan, providing practical experience in designing an investment strategy tailored to long-term financial objectives.
