The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) inaugurated the Certificate Programme in Data Science (Basic) 2026–27 (CPDS Basic) on 28 August 2026 through an online inaugural ceremony. The six-month programme aims to build foundational capabilities in data science, financial analytics, and data-driven decision-making, aligned with the evolving needs of the financial and securities markets.

The inaugural session commenced with Dr. Kirti Arekar, Professor and Programme Director – CPDS Basic, NISM, who outlined the programme’s objectives and academic roadmap. Dr. Rachana Baid, Professor and Dean (Academics), NISM, delivered the welcome address and highlighted NISM’s commitment to capacity building and professional development in the securities markets. Ms. Yogita Shrikant Jadhav, Registrar, NISM, addressed the participants and encouraged them to actively engage with the programme and make the most of the learning opportunities offered.

The inaugural address was delivered by Shri. Sashi Krishnan, Director, NISM, who emphasised the growing importance of data as a strategic organisational asset. He highlighted the role of data analytics in enabling informed decision-making, strategic planning, and creating competitive advantage in an increasingly technology-driven financial ecosystem.

The programme combines live online learning, self-paced recorded sessions, and a mandatory two-day campus immersion at NISM, Patalganga. Participants will develop skills across financial markets, statistical analysis, data visualisation, Python and R programming, machine learning, and their applications in finance.

The 2026-27 cohort comprises 50 participants from across India, bringing together early-career professionals and experienced practitioners from diverse backgrounds. The inaugural ceremony concluded with an interactive faculty-participant introduction session and a vote of thanks, marking the beginning of an engaging and industry-relevant learning journey in data science.
