The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) is a public trust established in 2006 by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the regulator of the securities markets in India. The institute carries out a wide range of capacity building activities at various levels aimed at enhancing the quality standards in securities markets.

A three-day training programme on ‘Overview of Securities Markets’ for senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Officers of National Academy of Direct Taxes, Regional Centre Mumbai was organised at NISM campus Patalganga, during October 11, 2023 to October 13, 2023. The programme was aimed at capacity building of these officers by providing them with vital inputs on the role of SEBI and about the various aspects of the securities markets. 40 Officers of the Indian Revenue Services attended the training programme.

Ms. Amrita Misra, ADG, NADT-RC, Mumbai in her opening address highlighted the program context and its relevance especially in the dynamic and complex world of capital markets. She also stressed the government’s recent emphasis on capacity building and upskilling.

Dr. CKG Nair, Director, NISM in his inaugural address shared his rich experience with the participants. During the address, he touched upon the role played by SEBI as a regulatory authority in the financial sector, the structure of laws governing securities markets and issue of market manipulation.
