55th Annual Conference of the Indian Econometric Society (TIES January 7-10, 2019 NISM Campus, Patalganga)
The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) has conducted 55th Annual TIES Conference in association with MSEPP, Mumbai University at NISM Campus, Patalganga during 8th – 10th January, 2019, with a special preconference workshop scheduled on 7th January, 2019. About 300 participants including PhD Scholars, faculty members, eminent economists, regulators, government officials from ministry, across the country have attended the conference.
7th January, 2019 –Started with Pre-conference workshop “Data Visualization and Data Modelling with R” & Trading in Equity workshop. The sessions were taken by the eminent faculty members like Prof Neeraj Hatekar, MSEPP, Dr. Arunabh Sarkar, NISM, Ms. Pooja Dewoolkar, Wildlife Conservation Trust, Mumbai and Dr. Sandhya Krishnan MSE-PP etc.
8th January – The first day of the conference was inaugurated by Shri. Ajay Tyagi, Chairman, SEBI. Dr. M Thenmozhi, Director, NISM delivered welcome address, Prof. K L Krishna eminent economist gave his remarks. The inaugural event concluded with Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. N.R. Bhanumurthy, Secretary, TIES. Key highlights of discussions during the day were Presidential Address by Prof. Shashanka Bhide, Former Director, MIDS, followed by Sukumoi Chakraborthy Memorial lecture by Dr. Vijay Kelkar, Chairman, NIPFP.
Three days of conference featured a rich line-up of technical sessions on various segments.
More than 200 research papers were presented by the research scholars & faculty members in 7 Technical sessions including parallel sessions conducted across the three days. The broad areas for the technical sessions included financial economics, monetary policy, agricultural and health economics, International economics, Public finance, India’s Manufacturing sector, Economic growth in Indian states and sustainability.
Panel Discussion were conducted on topics “Big Data, Machine Learning and the Future of Econometrics” and “Maharashtra’s Economy” with eminent panelists like Dr. R.B.Barman, Dr. G.P. Samanta, Dr. Ashok Nag, Prof. Neeraj Hatekar, Dr. Ajit Ranade, Dr. Pradeep Apte, Prof. Vinayak Deshpande ,Prof. Chandrahas Deshpande and Dr. Sangita Mishra sharing their views on the above topic.
The highlights of the conference included a Cultural Programme ‘The Tribal Heritage of Konkan: Folk Dance Forms” Presided over by Mrs. Manisha Verma, Principal Secretary, Department of Tribal Development, Government of Maharashtra and Dr. Kiran Kulkarni, Commissioner, TRTI as Chief Guest.
The programme ended with Valedictory session chaired by Dr Shashanka Bhide, a valedictory address by Dr. Rathin Roy and vote of thanks by organising secretaries of the three institutions Dr. Latha Chari, NISM & Dr. K Shanmugan, TIES and Dr. Neeraj Hatekar, MSEPP. Last but not the least Paper Presentation Certificate was issued to all the participants at the end of the Programme. The Programme was well received and highly appreciated by the participants.
