6th convocation
The sixth convocation of the School for Securities Education of the National Institute of Securities Markets was held at its splendid campus on 14th October 2017.
The venue for the program was its modern auditorium on the campus.
The chief guest for the program was Shri. M. Damodaran, Former Chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India. Shri Y. M. Deosthalee, member of the board of Governors of NISM and former Chairman and Managing Director of L&T Finance Holdings Ltd. presided over the function. Present on the dais for the ceremony were Shri Sandip Ghose, Director NISM, Shri G P Garg, Registrar and Head- National Centre for Financial Education and Shri Sunder Ram Korivi, Dean, School for Securities Education.
The convocation began with a grand academic procession. It was followed by recitation of Saraswati Vandana by students of NISM.
There after Shri Sandip Ghose welcomed Shri M. Damodaran, Shri Y. M. Deosthali, faculty members and visiting faculty members, staff of NISM, students and their parents. He then gave a brief report on NISM’s activities and different schools including School for Regulatory studies and Supervision, School for Corporate Governance, School for Investor Education and Financial Literacy and School for Certification of Intermediaries. He also threw light on the grand scale of financial literacy test taken by students which were organised by National Centre of Financial Education, which is getting incubated in NISM. On this occasion, he brought to the notice of the audience the contribution made by Shri M. Damodaran in the formation of NISM and helping it to get in the present shape.
Shri Sunder Ram Korivi gave formal introduction of Shri M. Damodaran and Shri Y. M. Deosthali and requested them to award certificates to successful students from different programs.
Shri M. Damodaran and Shri Y. M. Deosthali gave away certificates to students from different courses. They also gave gold medal and cash prize of Rs.1,00,000/- instituted by State Bank of India to Shri Dhaval Harania, who was topper of the PGPSM course of 2016-17 and Gold Medal and cash prize of Rs.50,000/- instituted by Canara Bank to Shri. Zayed Ahmed who was topper of the PGDFERM class of 2016-17.
After the distribution of certificates, Shri M. Damodaran gave an inspiring speech. In his speech, he shared incidences in his educational journey and career as bank officer and civil servant. He laid emphasis on importance of values, optimism, of being happy and making most of seemingly difficult situations in life and career. Shri M. Damodaran was given standing ovation after his speech.
Shri Y. M. Deosthali spoke about his education and career. He gratefully mentioned support he received from his siblings and challenges he accepted in his long and illustrious career with the Larsen and Toubro group. He also emphased on how integrity comes before intelligence and energy in one’s career and life.
The convocation ceremony ended with vote of thanks by Shri G P Garg and National Anthem sung by students of the institute.
